Moses Armstrong, a Nollywood actor, has been accused of raping a kid and providing abortion-inducing substances.
In a State High Court proceeding in Uyo, Akwa Ibom on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, the four counts were read to Armstrong, according to Premium Times.
In order to proceed with the bail application that was submitted on his client’s behalf on July 25, his attorney, Emmanuel Pantaleon, requested permission from the court to do so.
In opposition to the request for bail, the prosecution’s I.U. Robert, an assistant state attorney, highlighted pertinent legal precedent and asked the court to reject what he called an.
After hearing arguments from both attorneys, the judge, Ntong Ntong, supported the defense attorney’s request and granted Mr. Armstrong bail in the amount of N5 million.
Additionally, the actor’s friends and followers posted pictures of him on social media outside the courthouse.
In June, men from the Akwa Ibom State Police Command detained Armstrong on suspicion of defiling a 16-year-old girl.
When the news of his detention broke, Emeka Rollas, president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, called the situation “extremely serious.”
“To get involved with a child as young as 16yrs is not something I and the association I do not represent, would not stand for. This is a very sad development involving a member of ours, but I wouldn’t want to comment any further on this case,” he said.
According to Rollas, Martha Udom Emmanuel, the first lady of Akwa Ibom State, is handling the issue as part of her Family Empowerment and Youth Re-Orientation Path Initiative.
