Davido is among those honored as Buhari leaves Aso Rock with national awards.
By Omotayo Olutekunbi
The hitmaker Davido and director Kunle Afolayan join this exclusive group of performers who have received national accolades. Several other members of the entertainment business have also received prizes.
As his last official act before leaving office, President Muhammadu Buhari has chosen to bestow national honors on a select group of Nigerians.
The Order of the Niger (OON) honorees include Afolayan and David Adeleke, better known as Davido.

With his music reaching across the continent and making him the most followed Nigerian singer on social media, Davido is one of the most well-known musicians to come out of Nigeria and Africa.
One of Nollywood’s largest and most celebrated directors, Afolayan has produced several box office successes, including Figurine, October 1, and most recently, Anikulapo.
Davido shared a photo of the winners on his Instagram account to mark the occasion of his conferral.
The Grammy-winning singer is the latest musician to receive a national honor from President Buhari, joining Afrobeats icons Wasiu Ayinde, Burna Boy, and Teni.
On May 29, 2023, President Buhari is scheduled to give the reins to Bola Tinubu. This comes after an election plagued by a staggering number of anomalies, the outcome of which is still being litigated and which has received a great deal of popular dissatisfaction.
