Cruise said that a streaming release of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ will never happen.

Cruise told Variety that a streaming release of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ will never happen.
On Wednesday, at the Cannes Picture Festival opening of the film, the actor made the announcement.
During a session at the event, Cruise apparently remarked something about his profession, “That’s not going to happen. Ever,”
“I’ve spent a lot of time with theater owners. The people that serve the popcorn, the ones who make this [happen].”
“Please, I know what you’re going through,” the filmmaker said to theatre owners, despite claiming that his films are not suited for streaming. Just know that ‘Mission: Impossible’ is in the works, and ‘Top Gun’ will be out soon.”
Because of the pandemic, the sequel to 1986’s “Top Gun” has been delayed several times.
The release date for ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ was initially set for June 24, 2020, however it was postponed because to the Covid-19 outbreak, which caused theatres to close.
The sequel will pick up 36 years after the first film, with Pete “Maverick” Mitchell embarking on yet another unique assignment.
The synopsis reads: “Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is where he belongs, pushing the envelope as a courageous test pilot and dodging the advancement in rank that would ground him. Training a detachment of graduates for a special assignment, Maverick must confront the ghosts of his past and his deepest fears, culminating in a mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice from those who choose to fly it.”
The release date has now been set for May 27, 2022.
