The Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Professor Joseph Aibasu Kunini, has resigned.

On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, Kunini submitted a letter to the House announcing his resignation.

According to Daily Trust, the Deputy Speaker, Hammanadama Ibn-Abdullahi, who served as Speaker pro tempore during the meeting, read the letter.

Kunini’s resignation was followed, nonetheless, by the House’s selection of a new speaker.

John Kizito Bonzena was unanimously nominated and chosen as the next Speaker by the Assembly.

The Chief Whip of the Assembly was Bonzena, who is a state representative for the Zing Local Government Area.

The Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council’s Director-General, Doyin Okupe, resigned after being found guilty of breaking the money laundering act, and this happened only a little over 24 hours ago.

On Monday, December 19, 2022, an Abuja-based Federal High Court found Okupe guilty of money laundering.

On each of the 26 counts for which he was later found guilty, he was given a sentence of two and a half years in jail with the option of an N500, 000 fine.

Okupe chose to pay an N13 million fine to avoid the 4:30 pm deadline instead of serving two and a half years in prison.
