Nine Nigerian musicians have been nominated for the African Act of the Year category at the 2022 MOBO Awards. The other nine nominees—Burna Boy, Adekunle Gold, Tems, Asake, Rema, Oxlade, Tems, Omah Lay, and Fireboy—are from Nigeria; South Africa’s Kabza De Small is one of them.
Asake receives his first MOBO nomination because of the success of his record-breaking first album, “Mr. Money With The Vibe.” The popularity of his single “Kulosa” has earned Oxlade recognition on a global scale, propelling him to the top of the list.
With the popularity of “Peru,” Fireboy has enjoyed a successful worldwide run. The international mega tune “Last Last” by Burna Boy topped radio and streaming charts, while Tems achieved success abroad by contributing songs to albums by Future, Drake, and Beyonce.
For Best International Act, Tems and Burna Boy were nominated as well. Along with Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Drake, Jack Harlow, Jazmine Sullivan, Kendrick Lamar, Skillibeng, and Summer Walker, will be participating.
On November 30th, the award will be presented in London’s OVO Arena.
