The President, Muhammadu Buhari, will go to Monrovia, Liberia on Tuesday to give a speech about the security of West Africa, free and fair elections, and respect for the law, among other things.
A Special Independence anniversary will be celebrated in Liberia, the oldest independent post-colonial African State, and he will join other African leaders in celebrating this milestone.
The importance of President Buhari’s trip to Liberia was discussed in an explanation statement from the Presidency that was signed late on Monday by Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu.
The trip to Liberia takes place at least two days after the footage went public showing terrorists beating the remaining 43 of them over 61 passengers who were abducted off a train destined for Kaduna on March 28. The footage included one escapee from the raid on the Kuje Prison on July 5.
The militants in the video threatened to abduct both the President and Nasir El-Rufai, the governor of Kaduna State.
“The trip signifies the importance attached to the security and wellbeing of Liberia and the rest of West Africa.” according to Shehu, who made the announcement that Buhari is going to Liberia on Tuesday, July 26.
