The organizers of Africa’s most prestigious film award, the Africa Film Academy, have announced the list of nominees for the 17th edition of the award.
On Friday, October 26th, 2021, the AMAA 2021 nominations were announced at the Ebony Life Place in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria.
The head of jury, Hon. Steve Ayorinde, said movies were submitted from all over Africa when announcing the nominees for the 26 categories.
He also stated that the Nominees for 2021 reflect the brilliance of filmmakers from all over the world.
Gravedigger’s Wife from Somalia received the most nominations, with ten, including awards for best film in African language, best actor in a leading role, and best director.
Nyara (Tanzania), Omo Ghetto: The Saga (Nigeria), Eyimofe (Nigeria), African American (South Africa), and Ayinla (Nigeria) were all nominated for multiple awards.
Oluwabamike Olawunmi-Adenibuyan (Bam-Bam), a Nigerian actress and Big Brother Naija star, was nominated for “Best Young/Promising Actor” for her role in the film Collision Course.
The AMAA 2021 Gala and Awards will be held on November 28, 2021 at the Marriott Hotel in Ikeja GRA, Nigeria, and will be televised live in more than 40 countries across Africa and around the world.
