Amusan Through To The Finals as Ofili and Akintola Grace for Semi

By Adeke Chukwuka

Tobi Amusan, the 100-meter world record holder, has secured her slot for the 100-meter hurdles final in the ongoing World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

In a finishing time of 12.56 seconds, Amusan impressively crossed the finish line to register her name in the finals, ahead of her opponents; with Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent and Dutch Nadine Visser finishing in 12.60 and 12.62 seconds respectively.

Although Amusan’s start into the race wasn’t as expected by the majority, as she began the race in a slow pace, but still increased her pace before the end of the race.

With the record Amusan created in Oregon last year, she will be looking forward to defending her World title in this year’s World Athletics Championships.

Projecting Nigeria in Budapest also is Alaba Akintola, representing Nigeria in the Men’s 200m event finishing third; with a timing of 20.54 seconds which qualified him for the semi finals.

Although, Akintola finished fourth in the race, and France’s Ryan Zeze third; but due to the disqualification of Zeze for a ‘false start’, Akintola moved to the third slot. Also representing Nigeria is Favour Chukwuka Ofili, gracing into the Women’s 200m semi finals, with a timing of 22.66 seconds.
