Aiyedatiwa May Be Declared Acting Governor of Ondo State as Akeredolu Recovers in Ibadan

Members of the state’s House of Assembly are reportedly meeting today, Tuesday, November 28, 2023, to resolve the political crisis roiling the state, following the meeting of Ondo lawmakers with President Bola Tinubu.

The Punch said that a source within the assembly stated that the legislature will determine at its plenary session whether or not to designate Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the state’s deputy governor, as acting governor.

Rotimi Akeredolu, the state’s governor, has been ill for some time, and his absence has led to a political crisis in the state.

After returning to the country in September, Akeredolu, who was taken to Germany for treatment a few months ago, is thought to be recovering at his Ibadan mansion.

Akeredolu’s prolonged absence due to illness has caused animosity in Ondo, as legislators in the state cannot agree on whether or not to promote Aiyedatiwa to the role of acting governor.

During the crisis, certain lawmakers who supported Akeredolu advocated for the deputy governor’s impeachment, while others opposed the idea.

The insider, who talked to The Punch, did reveal, though, that Aiyedatiwa might be named acting governor as a result of their meeting with President Tinubu.

“The House is scheduled to convene on Tuesday, and it is possible that Aiyedatiwa will be named interim governor during the meeting. The source stated that this was one of the outcomes of their meeting with President Tinubu.

You may remember that last Friday in Abuja, President Tinubu met with Aiyedatiwa, the Assembly leadership, and the leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State in an attempt to find a solution to the situation.
