The position of Chairman of the Board of Directors has been assumed by Mr. Femi Agbaje.
General Dr. Yakubu Gowon, who retired from the company’s board with effect from January 28, 2021, was succeeded by Agbaje. The appointment is effective right away. Agbaje was the company’s chief financial officer till September 2018 and a non-executive director as of the time of his appointment.
Agbaje began his career in 1979 at Peat Marwick Cassleton Elliot & Co, Lagos and later Deloitte Haskins & Sells UK. He obtained his ACCA in 1984 and ACA in 1986.
Between 1984 and 1986, he pursued his accountancy career at Arthur Young Oshindero & Moret. He then entered the banking sector, beginning in 1986 at Nigerian-American Merchant Bank and departing the field in 2006 as Managing Director of Midas Bank.
In 1979, Agbaje graduated with a bachelor’s degree in political science and history from the University of Ife in Osun State. He is currently a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, having been made an Associate of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants in 1984.
In 1990, he was also appointed as a Fellow of the UK’s Chartered Association of Certified Accountants. As of right now, FSDH Merchant Bank Limited has him on its board.
