The filmmaker is a part of a four-person team that will collaborate with Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, the studios’ recently appointed Head of Nigerian Local Originals.
One of the four members of Amazon Studios’ local Originals development team is Nollywood actress and producer Kemi Lala Akindoju.
As the Senior Movies Creative Executive, Akindoju joins the Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu-led Nigerian originals group. Other confirmed executives include Mike-Steve Adeleye, Brendan Gabriel, and Kaye Ann Williams, who formerly served as the head of local productions and independent films at M-Net.
Ned Mitchell, Head of Originals for Africa and the Middle East at Amazon Studios, wrote on LinkedIn about the team:
“Another big day! I’m thrilled to share that our Amazon Studios Local Originals team has grown even more, both in South Africa and Nigeria. Please welcome Kaye Ann Williams, Brendan Gabriel, Lala Akindoju, and Mike-Steve Adeleye to the Amazon Studios Originals development team, joining Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu.
“This immensely talented group joins with the singular goal of building Africa’s premiere studio and home for talent. Together with our colleagues and partners, we are at work to deliver authentic, premium, and beloved hit scripted and unscripted series and movies to our local and global audiences.”
“I am incredibly excited to be joining the Amazon Studios Local Originals team as the Senior Movies Creative Executive, Nigeria,” Akindoju shared on Instagram. “Amazon Studios has shown its commitment to creating opportunities that are laser-focused on creatives & content.”
The most recent news from Amazon comes after its August local slate debut. Remember that last month, the studios officially debuted Prime Video Naija, providing Nigerian users access to over 10,000 titles, including a future film schedule and scripted and unscripted entertainment.
