A viral message that cited the former president applauding the political skills of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a presidential contender for the All Progressives Congress (APC), and insulting the military, has been denounced by Olusegun Obasanjo as false news.

On Sunday, October 9, 2022, the former head of state’s spokeswoman, Kehinde Akinyemi, released a reply.

Obasanjo said that he was unable to make any remarks that would have diminished the honor of his military career.

According to Obasanjo’s observations, only those with military training become effective people managers.

A group called “National Patriots” claimed in a widely shared WhatsApp message that the retired general had called Tinubu a “great politician.”

“If you are looking for a thoroughbred politician of masters class, visit Lagos Bourdillon,” he was quoted saying.

Obasanjo emphasized that only people who had been through military training could effectively manage both people and resources.

“I cannot disparage my noble profession for politics that has no formal training. This is false and fake,” he said.

Chris Ngige, the minister of labor and employment, is not renowned for keeping his mouth shut. However, he deftly refrained from endorsing Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, on Friday, October 7, 2022.

By choosing the N100 million nomination and expression of interest forms, Mr. Ngige had expressed interest in running for president of the ruling party. However, he withdrew after President Muhammadu Buhari ordered his appointees, who were also candidates, to resign in accordance with section 84(12) of the electoral act.

When Mr. Ngige appeared on Politics Today on Channels TV, he was questioned about which candidate, Mr. Tinubu or Peter Obi, he preferred.

The minister declined to respond directly.
