The first American performer to be added to the lineup for the 2018 Afronation Ghana music festival is the Rapper Meek Mill.
By Omotayo Olutekunbi
Meek Mill has expressed a desire to perform onstage in Africa in recent weeks in order to reconnect with his roots. Meek Mill’s ambition has come true thanks to Afronation, one of the continent’s top exporters of African music.
The Philadelphia-born, Grammy Award-nominated rapper is a well-known figure in American hip-hop who has worked with influential figures including Jay-Z, Drake, Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj, and many more. Meek Mill’s appearance on Davido’s top-charting song “Fans Mi” in 2015 led to his first African collaboration.
Meek Mill will join a group of other African celebrities, such as Asake, known for his Afrobeats hits. Other notable special guests include Afrobeats pioneers P-Square, Nigerian megastar Davido, and famous Dancehall performers Stonebwoy and Davido from Ghana.
Rema, Dadju, CKay, and Adekunle Gold, together with some of Ghana’s newest and brightest performers, Black Sherif, Kuami Eugene, KiDi, Gyakie, and Camidoh, are also anticipated to play at the event.
In addition to Uncle Waffles and Kamo Mphela, other notable South African DJs and performers include DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, and Major League DJz.
The event is scheduled at Marine Drive, Black Star Square on the 29th and 30th of December 2022. The event was started to bring the diaspora together in honor of Black Joy, and it is returning for a joyful journey of Black culture, distinctive music, dancing, delicious food, and much more.
