Sydney Sweeney has been cast as an unnamed comic character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
By Omotayo Olutekunbi
Following a thrilling performance as Cassie Howard in the sophomore season of HBO’s blockbuster series Euphoria, the 24-year-old actress has been enlisted to join the marvel cinematic universe, alongside Fifty Shades of Grey lead actress Dakota Johnson, in the spider-man spin-off movie ‘Madame Web,’ which is reportedly in production at Sony Pictures.
According to Deadline, the spin-off would follow the storey of the comic book character ‘Madame Web,’ an elderly woman with psychic sensory powers who thrives on a spider web that serves as her life support.
Reports are being circulated. S.J. Clarkson has been hired to direct Madame Web. The screenplay was written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, but no further details have been released. This Sony Marvel Spider-Man-related project is a follow-up to Venom’s appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home and a big Vulture appearance in the upcoming Sony title Morbius, which is closely linked to the MCU. At this point, it’s clear that Sony Pictures is attempting to spin off a slew of Spider-Man characters into their own films, and it’s assumed that a Kraven the Hunter movie is also in the works.
Sydney Sweeney made her television debut in 2009 with ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction, a comic book adaption. However, she broke into popular television with her performance as Emaline in the Netflix comedy Everything Sucks! before landing the role of Eden in the Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale. She won acting nominations for her performance in The White Lotus, a summer smash series last year, before becoming a household figure and social media sensation for her controversial character ‘Cassie Howard’ in Euphoria.
Sweeney’s character is yet unknown, but it is rumoured that she will play Black Cat. However, before she makes her MCU debut, you can see all sides of the actress on the recently finished seasons of Euphoria and The White Lotus on HBO
