The five Dowen College pupils suspected of being involved in the killing of Sylvester Oromoni, a 12-year-old boy, have been exonerated by the Lagos state government.
Oromoni passed away on November 30, 2021, after battling injuries he sustained while playing football, according to the school.
Oromoni’s family has stated that before his death, the youngster told them that he was attacked and bullied by classmates who wanted him to join their cult.
After being tormented regularly, his father claims that their kid was given a chemical substance by classmates.
Five school personnel have been absolved of any wrongdoing by the Lagos state administration.
The decision of the Lagos state government is stated in a legal advise issued on Wednesday, January 5, 2021 by Adetutu Osinusi, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
According to the DPP’s office, the police investigation and two autopsies performed on the corpse of the dead student were insufficient to build a prima facie case against the accused.
The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) preliminary and final autopsy results, as well as toxicology analyses of post-mortem samples, confirmed the cause of death as, “Septicaemia, Lobar Pneumonia with Acute Pyelonephritis, Pyomyositis of the right ankle, and Acute Bacteria Pneumonia due to severe Sepsis.”
According to the DPP assessment, there was no prima facie case of murder, involuntary manslaughter, or deliberate poisoning with the intent to damage.
Due to a lack of information to support the accusation, the authorities cleared the children of membership to an illegal society (cultism).
The school and five of its staff (Celina Uduak, Valentine Igboekweze, Hammed Ayomo Bariyu, Adesanya Olusesan Olusegun, and one Adeyemi) were also absolved of the claimed crime of “negligent conduct causing injury” by the government.
The state administration has ordered that all suspects who are still in detention be released.
