The violent attack on Sen. Ifeanyi Ubah’s convoy in Anambra State, who represents the Anambra South District, was dubbed “barbaric and condemnable” by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President, revealed this in a statement on September 14, 2022.
Buhari said, “We are deeply concerned about the activities of armed groups in the region and in other parts of the country. We are closely monitoring the situation and waiting for further details on the response to the worrisome situation by the police, the military, and other security agencies.
“The nation has lost four brave policemen and other aides of the Senator.
“On behalf of the government and the people, I pay homage to these security men and the aides who were brutally murdered. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families at this difficult time.”
Buhari, however, prayed for the Senator’s and everyone else’s swift recovery.
He also prayed for Anambra State and all other places to have peace and security soon.
On September 11, 2022, at about 5 p.m., Ubah’s convoy was ambushed while traveling to Nnewi near Nkwo Enugwu Ukwu Market.
Goodness Mathias and Obum Ikechukwu, two close assistants, as well as some security officers perished at the site.
Five persons were murdered in the event, according to the police in Anambra State.
“Two police officers were killed. The other three that died in the attack were one civilian and two aides of Ifeanyi Ubah,” Tochukwu Ikenga said.
Another two police officers, according to Mr. Ikenga, a deputy superintendent of police, are still being treated in a state hospital.
The police spokeswoman stated that although no one has been apprehended, searches for the suspects are still ongoing.
