‘People’ by Libianca has become the highest-charting African song on the UK Official Singles list.
By Omotayo Olutekunbi
Libianca, a Cameroonian-American singer, rose into the mainstream with her hit “People,” which addresses the melancholy and loneliness of living in an increasingly harsh and independent environment.
‘People’ has risen in popularity both abroad and in Nigeria since its debut. The song has now risen to No. 2 in the newest edition of the UK Singles Chart (April 14 – 20, 2023).
This makes it the highest-ranking African song in the chart’s history, surpassing CKay’s previous peak of No. 3 held by ‘Love Nwantiti’.
Rema’s remix of Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down” climbs one spot this week to reclaim its No. 4 peak position. Rush by Ayra Starr, which has been on the chart for 12 weeks, falls 3 spots to No. 27.
After debuting at No. 6O last week, Davido’s song “Unavailable” featuring Musa Keys now ranks at No. 70.
