Onyinyechi Mark Wins Nigeria’s First Paralympics Gold Medal

Onyinyechi Mark has won Nigeria’s first gold medal at the 2024 Paralympics in the women’s 61 kg lifting category, lifting a smashing 145 kg.

This incredible performance breaks the previous record set by compatriot Lucy Ejike.

Mark’s performance has almost guaranteed Nigeria’s first gold medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, with one lift remaining. Her closest competitor is attempting 138 kg on her final lift.

Onyinyechi, from Umuahia, is looking forward to beating her record with a final attempt of 147 kg.

Onyiyechi also shattered the Paralympic record with her historic performance at La Chapelle Arena. Her victory earned Team Nigeria’s third medal at the Paris Paralympics.
