Gout Gout, a South Sudanese teenager stirred up the Queensland Championship in Australia. He dominated the 100 meter race, clocking in at 10.2 seconds.
Gout was born in 2007 to South Sudanese parents who had immigrated to Australia a few years prior.
As a sprinter, he has always shown promise; in the 2023 Australian Junior Athletics Championships, at the age of 15, he not only won the men’s under-18 200m final, but he also set a national under-20 record.
In March 2024, Gout set a record-breaking time of 10.29 seconds for the 100 meters. He outran his rivals and used a remarkable last-ditch acceleration to further establish his lead.
Gout has been compared to Usain Bolt, the eight-time Olympic winner and greatest sprinter of all time.
Being under such tension at the age of sixteen is difficult, but it also shows how highly regarded he is in the world of athletics.
Even though it is still early in his career, the teenager will undoubtedly have his sights set on the United States when the next Olympic Games are held in Los Angeles in 2028.
He will be 20 years old at that point. Even better, he will have a lot more experience by the time the next Olympiad—Brisbane 2032—takes place in his native state of Queensland.
