The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission has arrested and detained D’banj, a well-known Nigerian singer (ICPC).

The musician was detained on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, according to Premium Times, when ICPC agents approached him and forced him to submit.

On suspicion of unlawfully transferring money meant for the N-Power project into his own accounts, D’banj was detained.

The Nigerian government launched the N-Power initiative in 2016 as an empowerment program to address challenges including young unemployment and advance social development.

According to Premium Times, the singer struck a deal with some public servants, who added fictitious beneficiaries to the program.

The funds allotted to those recipients have now been discovered in accounts connected to the singer.

Prior to his arrest, he allegedly ignored summonses for many weeks.

The ICPC was compelled to demand his arrest in any location, whether in Nigeria or abroad after he repeatedly declined the commission’s invitation for a conversation. As a result, he was arrested yesterday.

According to Premium Times sources, the ICPC may request a longer detention order from the court today, December 7, so that it may complete its investigation before bringing the musician to justice.

Because they could not rely on the singer to present at his trial if he were released, the authorities denied the artist’s plea for bail.

D’banj, popularly referred to as the Kokomaster, is a Nigerian singer-songwriter. He has contributed significantly to the Nigerian music industry since 2004 and has written a number of popular songs.
