As the major players, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, finally met in London, it appears that the crisis engulfing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may soon be a thing of the past.

On August 25, 2022, Wike and his political associates met with Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, and Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke were among the Rivers Governor’s entourage at the meeting.

When Wike met with the PDP presidential candidate, he was joined by the same group of loyalists, including the governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri.

Since the PDP presidential primary ended in May, when Atiku narrowly defeated Wike in a contentious run-off, the two have been engaged in a protracted conflict.

By rejecting the Governor’s nomination as his running mate, as suggested by a PDP committee, Atiku made the situation worse.

Since then, Wike has met with a number of leaders from opposing parties, including an alleged meeting with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), on August 22, 2022, in London.

It is still uncertain, as of the time of reporting this story, if the governor of Rivers State has decided to collaborate with the former vice president as he continues to spread his bets ahead of the 2023 general elections.
