The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor of Lagos State, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, has been dropped by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike (PDP).
Wike gave his support to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the All Progressives party’s candidate for reelection, in a popular video.
On Tuesday, October 18, 2022, Sanwo-Chief Olu’s Press Secretary, Gboyega Akosile, issued a brief statement confirming the occurrence.
“Breaking: Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike endorses Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for second term in office. Details later,” Akosile wrote.
Governor Sanwo-Olu is doing well, according to Wike, who is defending his decision.
“Again, like I said, If Sanwo-Olu is not doing well, even if he is in my party, I will not come. If you are in my party and you are not doing well you will not see me. That is what I stand for”
“I will not regret to say that I am in support of you”
Governor Wike said that no one would be able to persuade him to give up his support for the party’s internal democracy.
Wike disagreed with the party’s present leadership structure, which includes Iyorchia Ayu as national chairman, Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate, and Aminu Tambuwal as director general of the presidential campaign.
The PDP’s flag-off for their presidential campaign in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Monday, October 10, 2022, allegedly featured five governors, including Wike.
There were four governors who weren’t present: Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Samuel Ortom of Benue.
Additionally, none of the group’s members attended the party’s presidential campaign council’s inaugural meeting last month.
