The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has removed its fraud notice against Opeyemi David Falegan, the ex-lover of Nollywood star Nkechi Blessing.

On his Instagram feed, @hon falegan official_, Falegan claimed to be raising money for the people of Ukraine through his charity, ODF Foundation, in partnership with UNICEF.

On Friday, April 08, 2022, the UNICEF’s Nigerian arm, @unicef nigeria, disputed the allegation, calling it a “scam,” on its Instagram page @unicef nigeria.

Despite the warning, Falegan released a video on his Instagram profile claiming to have raised £61 for UNICEF’s Ukraine relief operations.

The video showed how a link from UNICEF’s Instagram page was used to start a fundraising on his own profile.

Donations made using the Instagram contribution tool are automatically deposited to the organization’s account.

Falegan, on the other hand, requested contributions and included his foundation’s bank account information in the fundraising article.

The Nigerian office of UNICEF reversed course on Monday, April 11, 2022, and deleted the fraud alert post.

The alert was sent because Falegan attempted to advertise his charity organisation while seeking cash in the name of UNICEF, according to the organization’s Instagram feed, @unicef nigeria.

We are aware that funds can be raised for UNICEF with the Instagram feature that allows users to raise funds for an organization of their choice,” the caption read. “However, no aspect of the fundraiser should include an unauthorized promotion, support, or fundraising for another organisation.

We discourage intended or unintended affiliations with organizations we do not have a partnership with. In instances where this occurs, UNICEF can issue an alert through our office in the country where the unauthorized activity took place or where the organization operates.

We have taken down the post with the scam alert as the fundraising activity in question has been discontinued.”

Falegan has responded by threatening to sue the UNICEF over the accusation.

UNICEF’s fraud notice was also condemned by the legislator as “gross irresponsibility,” which he stated will be “lawfully handled.”

In the meantime, Falegan and his ex-wife had been talking to the media about their breakup last week.
