Godwin Tom, a creative executive, has been hired by the firm as managing director and he will report to Guy Henderson, president of the international division.

With the establishment of a new office in Lagos, Nigeria, global music giant Sony Music Publishing has announced the expansion of its activities across Africa.
Godwin will supervise Sony Music Publishing’s development in Africa as it seeks to expand its portfolio of songwriters and composers throughout the continent in his position as president of the Nigerian branch of the firm.
Godwin commented on his appointment, “I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to work for the No. 1 music publisher in the world. Africa has so much talent, culture, and uniqueness to share with the rest of the world and I am excited to be a part of the incredible global network of teams that will help build a home for Africa’s best songwriters.”
Guy Henderson, international president of Sony Music Publishing, spoke on behalf of the company, “It is a real pleasure to be able to announce the appointment of Godwin Tom as the Managing Director of our start-up company in Nigeria. As Sony Music Publishing enters West Africa, Godwin’s wealth of experience and knowledge of the market, as well as his background in music industry education make him the perfect leader for our business. Together with our talented team in South Africa, Sony Music Publishing looks forward to an ongoing acceleration in its global African footprint.”
Godwin Tom, who has been in the music business for more than 20 years, has cultivated ties with influential figures in South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Kenya. He also has a thorough grasp of the African music industry. Through the Music Business Academy for Africa, an online learning platform devoted to educating the following generation of music and entertainment professionals, Godwin has furthermore helped the advancement of future industry leaders.
With his vast expertise, he will be able to assist Sony Music Publishing in growing its presence in Africa.
