The next Venom chapter is on the way! Venom 3 will be released, according to Sony Pictures, during their CinemaCon presentation today. Tom Hardy portrayed journalist Eddie Brock in the first two films, who becomes the host of an extraterrestrial symbiote dubbed Venom and gets superpowers as a result. With no official announcement of talent or a release date, fans can only hope for a third film in the series.
This news comes as no surprise given the box office success of the previous two Venom films, Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage. In 2018, Venom grossed $856 million domestically and internationally, with Venom: Let There Be Carnage bringing in $502 million globally in 2021.
Venom, a beloved Marvel character, first appeared on live-action screens in 2007 in Spider-Man 3, starring Topher Grace as Eddie Brock. Then, in 2018, Hardy took up the role, not only as Eddie, but also as the symbiote’s voice, which he did in his own whimsical and caustic way. Fans took to the relationship between a caustic Venom and his rough-and-tumble host, and the Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde perspective proved to be a winning formula for the Marvel character.
We saw Eddie and Venom having a wonderful vacation at the end of Let There Be Carnage, but it was shortly disrupted by some multiverse antics. Eddie watched as J. Jonah Jameson revealed Peter Parker’s identity as Spider-Man as he shifted into a new dimension. Then, in Spider-Man: No Way Home, we saw Eddie sipping a drink in an MCU bar, unsure of where he was, as Spider-Man fought off his gang of rogues. All of the rogues, including Eddie, return to their reality when Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) performs his spell to correct the wrongs and make the world forget about Peter Parker. Eddie, however, accidentally leaves a piece of the Venom symbiote behind after enjoying his drink.
