The withdrawal of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will lose the party nearly 15 million votes in the 2023 presidential elections, according to a group called Coalition for Peter Obi’s Presidential Aspiration.

Following the formal confirmation of Obi’s departure from the PDP, the organisation issued a statement signed by its Chairman, Marcel Ngogbehei, on Thursday, May 26, 2022.

In response to the news, the organisation praised the Presidential candidate for agreeing to drop the opposition party in order to establish an alliance with genuine Nigerians and run for President in 2023, according to Punch.

The organisation praised Peter Obi as a nice guy who has refused to join the PDP’s money politics, claiming that he made the right decision by leaving the party.

Part of the state read, “We are delighted that the former governor of Anambra, Peter Obi, listened to the request of his 23 support groups to dump the Peoples Democratic Party, following the shenanigans going on inside the party ahead of the party’s presidential primary.

“With the recent development, it is obvious that the PDP has automatically lost 15 million votes because of Peter Obi’s decision to dump the party.

“We, therefore, urge Peter Obi to look for Nigerians of like minds and vie to be president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the forthcoming 2023 general election.”

Obi has already stated that he was leaving the PDP due to recent changes inside the party.
