One musician providing much-needed complexity and excitement to the Nigerian Hip Hop industry is Odumodu Blvck. He combines Hip Hop with Highlife to create his distinctive sound, “Okporoko Music.”
Released on May 30, 23, “Dog Eat Dog II” follows the success of his top-charting single “Declan Rice,” which reached the Top 10 on TurnTable Top 100 and has received over 20 million streams.
A summertime remix of the original 2022 hit that is smokey and upbeat and has additional lines from fellow Nigerian singers Cruel Santino and Bella Shmurda over an ominous and moody rhythm.
His profound, deliberate lyrics have won him followers, in publications like Dazed, GUAP, and BBC 1Xtra. His hip-hop style draws inspiration from Grime, Fela Kuti’s Afrobeat, and Progressive R&B.
