On Monday, April 25, 2022, Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, presented N200 million to Kaduna State’s Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) for their care.
Wike made the payment while on a campaign visit to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) state office in Kaduna to pursue the party’s presidential ticket in 2023.
“We must not be sentimental about winning 2023 election.
“We need people who are courageous and competent to win the election come 2023 and this we will do when you give us the mandate,” he said.
Wike stated that the first order of business for any serious administration upon taking office is to solve the country’s security concerns.
“My major concern within my first six months in office is how to restore our states, how to restore our country and if you can not do that, there is no need to say you want to govern any state of head any country,” Wike said
He claimed that acquiring intelligence was crucial to decreasing insecurity.
“One of the major problems we have as a nation is that we don’t spend much money on intelligent gathering.
“Unfortunately, we spend more money on buying weapons than on gathering intelligence,” he said.
In the run-up to the 2023 election, Wike urged party members to avoid all forms of prejudice by unifying behind a single candidate.
Former Kaduna State governor, Sen. Ahmad Makarfi, praised Wike for his bravery, characterizing him as a party loyalist who looked out for the common good.
Wike’s contribution to the IDPs was praised by Makarfi, who called it “heartwarming.”
Mr Felix Hyet, the State PDP Chairman, stated that the party was ready to field candidates who would represent the people’s opinions.
