Nnamdi Kanu, the self-admitted leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, or IPOB, declined to show up in court on Monday, November 14, 2022, in protest over the Federal Government’s disobedience to a Court of Appeal ruling that ordered his release from custody.
Justice Binta Nyako was informed of the unwillingness to respect the High Court by Mr. Mohammed Abubakar, an attorney for the Federal Government.
He told the court that any attempt to get him to change his mind was met with rejection.
It was said that Kanu had maintained his position not to show up in court unless the Court of Appeal’s October 13 ruling was acknowledged and followed by freeing him from the Department of the State Service, DSS, in Abuja.
In his battle to prevent his extradition from Kenya, Kanu has won another win over the federal government.
Kanu’s lawsuit against the federal government was sustained by Umuahia-based Federal High Court Justice Evelyn Anyadike, who also fined the government N500 million.
Kanu, who is still being held by the Department of State Services, has launched an N100 billion lawsuit against the federal government for violating his fundamental rights (DSS).
Kanu is requesting his immediate release from the DSS facility in the lawsuit he filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja as well as N100 billion in damages for the DSS’s breach of his rights to liberty and human dignity.
