Mr. Eazi, a Nigerian-born music icon, entrepreneur, and global nomad, has announced the creation of Choplife Soundsystem, a brand-new pan-African music ensemble.

Also, the group will include DJ Edu, a Kenyan-born DJ with a base in the UK, as its regular DJ, as well as a loose collective of contributing DJs, artists, and producers from all across the continent. Choplife Soundsystem’s main vocalist will be Mr. Eazi, who will also perform live as the group’s MC (or Minister of Enjoyment).

International groups have recently added their own unique touch to the style, such as producer Diplo’s Major Lazer project, which serves as a DJ crew, original song composers, and performers. The ever-visionary Mr. Eazi is giving soundsystem culture a contemporary, African touch with Choplife Soundsystem by fusing genres like amapiano and afrobeats to create the ultimate African party experience, both on original studio recordings and at specially-curated live events.

Mr. Eazi was motivated to spread the atmosphere and spirit of his popular Ghanaian holiday party Detty Rave, so in 2022 he “soft launched” Choplife Soundsystem with performances in Cotonou, Benin; Stockholm, Sweden; and Kigali, Rwanda. Later this Spring, Mr. Eazi will reveal further information about Choplife Soundsystem, including brand-new music releases, collaborations, and live events.

“I’m going back to where I started from, hosting the biggest parties at uni,” Mr Eazi says. “That’s how I started singing. I am looking forward to this new and fun ride, and I can’t wait for all the music to start dropping and the accompanying live experience”
