This means the Super Eagles will be without him for the next four games.

Maduka Okoye has withdrawn from Nigeria’s team for international friendlies against Mexico and Ecuador on May 28 and June 3, respectively.
Okoye was picked as one of three goalkeepers in the 30-man roster for the games against Mexico and Ecuador. He will, however, be absent from both games as well as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sierra Leone and Sao Tome & Principe.
The 22-year-old goalie will miss the games due to a chronic shoulder issue that will require surgery. Okoye played with the pain for Sparta Rotterdam this season, but doctors have urged him to get surgery to correct the problem before next season.
This means the Super Eagles will be without him for the next four games. Since being accused for Nigeria’s AFCON 2021 exit, Okoye has not played for the country.
Likewise, Francis Uzoho, Okoye’s international colleague, has dismissed rumours that he is leaving the national team.
Uzoho did not participate in Nigeria’s May and June matches, although he did appear in the World Cup playoff games against Ghana.
“I’m committed to playing for my dear country anytime I’m called up,” Uzoho said.
He was, however, to blame for Ghana’s opening match in Abuja, which resulted in Nigeria’s inability to qualify for the World Cup. After the game, the former Elche goalie justifiably faced criticism, but he will continue to play for the squad in the future.
