The lead single from Lewis Capaldi’s debut album, “Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent,” is the deep heartache song “Someone You Loved.” One of the album’s lead songs, it launched Lewis into the UK mainstream before becoming a worldwide smash. In the 70-year history of the UK Official Singles Chart, this song has received the most streams.

Lewis says that he spent six months writing the song, which he dedicated to his grandmother who had gone away. The song peaked at number one in the UK and held that position for seven weeks. Additionally, it was his first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at number one and debuted at number 85.

Lewis Capaldi commented on the accomplishment by saying:

“I’m the streaming king! In the UK! On this particular song! I feel huge, I feel massive, I feel my loins expanding as I become more and more aware of the reality of my coronation as the king of music. Thank you. A very large accolade that I will now shoulder for the rest of my life…or until Ed Sheeran releases his next album.” [UK OFFICIAL CHARTS]

The 2020 Brit Awards and the 62nd Grammy Awards both recognized “Someone You Loved” as Song of the Year, and it was nominated for both awards.

There are 13 nations where the song has achieved platinum status, including the US and the UK, where it has achieved seven platinum certifications.
