The Lagos PDP has called off the House of Assembly and Representatives Primaries.
By Omotayo Olutekunbi
The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the ad hoc delegates list for the State and Federal Houses of Assembly and Representatives, requesting for the party’s primary in the state to be cancelled outright.
Phillip Aivoji, the party’s state chairman, said the ad hoc list that emerged from the state and was given to INEC is entirely different from the one brought by the committee for the purpose of the process.
“The electoral committee came into the state with list of venues already chosen, already chosen electoral officers. This is the responsibility of the state exco, and therefore totally unacceptable,” Mr Aivoji said.
“We therefore call for outright cancellation of the entire exercise. It will not only jeopardise the party’s chances at the polls, but it will also lead to litigation afterwards.”
Mr Aivoji noted the committee Chairman and Secretary of the Election Committee meant to conduct the State House of Assembly Primary election had not reported to the state chairman or state organ of the party.
In response to the party’s Chairman’s remark, Sam Aiboni, a candidate for the house of representatives in Eti-Osa local government, declared that an election would be held unless the party did not want representatives.
“We are very positive that an election will hold because any attempt to cancel elections because of personal interest will mean PDP will not have candidate. it is very critical that as party men we stay united.”
