The Kano State House of Assembly gave its assent, and the Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, would now be known by the name of businessman Aliko Dangote.

In May 2022, the government wrote to the State Assembly requesting permission to rename the institution Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil.
The House considered and accepted the institution’s renaming at a plenary session that was presided over by Speaker Hamisu Chidari.
The majority leader of the House, Labaran Madari, told reporters immediately after the plenary that Alhaji Aliko Dangote’s considerable contribution to the expansion of education in the state was the reason why the lawmakers had backed the state government’s action.
The university’s visiting panel made a proposal for the university’s name, and the state government accepted it in May 2022. At that time, a statement on the subject had been issued by Muhammad Garba, the Kano State Commissioner for Information.
He did, however, stress that the State Assembly was now responsible for enacting the necessary legislative measures as it had been given its approval.
The institution’s name, which had originally been the Kano University of Technology when it was established in 2001, was modified in compliance with the university’s gazette regulations in 2005 to Kano University of Science and Technology Wudil.
Aliko Dangote was named chancellor of the university in 2008 by Senator Ibrahim Shekaru, the previous governor of Kano State. Dangote was reappointed by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the incumbent governor, in November 2021. The Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology is the new name for KUST.
