Three new categories will be added to the Headies Awards in 2022, according to the Headies Academy.

The news was made on the Academy’s official Instagram account on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. The Academy indicated that the decision to create three new categories was motivated by the desire to be more inclusive.
“In the spirit of inclusivity, The Headies Awards adds three (3) new nomination categories to its forthcoming 15th edition.” The post read.
“This latest amendment is birthed from critical discussions with key music and creative industry stakeholders to include certain sectors of the Entertainment industry in order to ensure an holistic and well-rounded celebration of deserving music industry talents.” The post further read revealing the intention behind the decision.
In the coming weeks, the Academy will announce the three new categories, and stakeholders and fans will be watching to see which sections of the business receive nominations.
On May 24, 2022, the nomination list for the 2022 Headies Awards was revealed, and the three new categories will bring the total number of categories to 38. The award ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, September 4, 2022, in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Categories added are: International artist of the year, Best inspirational single and Digital artist of the Year
