Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has dismissed the state executive council.
Emeka Woke, the governor’s chief of staff, and Harold Koko, his Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, were both fired.
On Tuesday, Kelvin Ebiri, special assistant to Mr Wike on Media, issued a statement in Port Harcourt announcing this development.
“Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has dissolved the State Executive Council with effect from Tuesday, May 24, 2022,” the statement said.“The Chief of Staff to the governor and Senior Special Assistant (Protocol), have also been relieved of their office.”
No explanation was given as to why his cabinet was disbanded and his aides were fired; nonetheless, he praised them for their efforts and dedication to the state.
Mr Wike also ordered all previous members of the State Executive Council to take over to their respective ministries’ most senior executives.
Wike, Governors Seyi Makinde and Samuel Ortom met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State’s capital, only hours before.
He also said he led the governors to inform and seek Obasanjo’s support for his presidential aspirations following their closed-door encounter with the former president.
