Vice-chancellors have been given the order by the federal government to reopen the schools and resume the regular schedule of classes.

In a letter written by Sam Onazi, the NUC’s director of finance and accounts, on behalf of the commission’s executive secretary, Professor Abubakar Rasheed, the government announced this through the National Universities Commission.

ThePunch reports that the letter was sent to every vice-chancellor, as well as the pro chancellors and chairs of the governing bodies of federal institutions.

Part of the letter reads: “Ensure that ASUU members immediately resume/commence lectures; Restore the daily activities and routines of the various University campuses”.

After the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) was commanded by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria to end its protracted statewide strike, this occurred a few days later.

To attract attention to its demands to the government, ASUU has been on strike since Monday, February 14, 2022.
