“The Federal Government should adopt concrete measures to end the ASUU strike without any further delay,” Falana’s said.

President Muhammadu Buhari has received advice from rights activist and legal stalwart Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) on how to put a stop to the current Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike.
Falana asked Buhari to submit an additional budget for the allocation of the N200 billion needed to upgrade federal institutions around Nigeria.
He says that this will make a significant difference in putting an end to the ASUU strike, which has been crippling public colleges since February of this year.
Falana disputed the Federal Government’s assertion that it lacks the resources to satisfy ASUU’s requests in a statement on Tuesday, July 12, 2022. She insisted that the government has set aside trillions to address issues including farm policy and fuel subsidies.
“The Federal Government should adopt concrete measures to end the ASUU strike without any further delay,” Falana’s said.
“Instead of lamenting over the strike, President Buhari should urgently submit a supplementary budget to the National Assembly for the appropriation of the sum of N200 billion required to revamp the federal universities.
“This demand is in accordance with the FG/ASUU Agreement, whose terms are binding on the Federal Government. The National Assembly, concerned parents, progressive civil society bodies, and other relevant stakeholders should prevail on President Buhari to do the needful with a view to ending the strike without any further delay.”
Recall that Buhari had declared “truly, enough is enough” to keep Nigerian students at home in a statement sent by his spokesperson, Malam Garba Shehu.
