In recent years, the action genre has had a renaissance. Films like John Wick and Nobody were among the greatest in the genre’s history. Netflix’s 2020 feature Extraction, starring Chris Hemsworth, is another excellent example of the current genre. The much anticipated sequel for the streamer has already completed development.

Sam Hargrave took to Instagram to upload a brief video commemorating the completion of main photography and thanking the team for their efforts. This news should not come as a surprise, given both Hargrave and Hemsworth said last week that the star had completed filming on the sequel. That’s also where Hargrave claimed they just had a week of filming remaining, and now we’re here.

In November of last year, the sequel began filming. Hargrave and Hemsworth have been teasing fans with fresh images from the impending action picture since then. This features a snowy action scene/stunt in which a helicopter lands on a moving train. Other than the knowledge that Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake survived being shot and falling from a bridge at the conclusion of the last film, nothing is known about the narrative of the sequel. Even before the sequel began filming, this was disclosed in a trailer for Extraction 2.

The majority of the original cast members have returned for the sequel, including Hargrave as director, Hemsworth as actor, and Joe Russo as screenwriter. That three-hit combination proved lethal the first time around, so it is only natural to expect more of the same in this action sequel.

The release of Extraction arrived at the ideal time. It was debuted at the height of the pandemic’s first wave and provided a euphorically violent getaway from all of our real-world worries. In terms of our real-world challenges, little has changed after two years.

We should be receiving a clear release date and perhaps even the first teaser shortly now that Extraction 2 has concluded shooting. You have plenty of time till then to re-watch the first film and enjoy the beauty of practically done action even more.
