Dangote Refinery: What You Need to Know 

The refinery, which can process 650,000 barrels of crude oil daily, converts crude oil into various petroleum products such as diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, and kerosene.

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemical Project, a subsidiary of Aliko Dangote’s Dangote Industries Limited, is set to open today, Monday.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd. ), who will commission the project, is anticipated to attend.

“Efforts by the Federal Government to make Nigeria self-sufficient in local refining of crude oil to save the scarce foreign exchange used in the importation of petroleum products have received a boost as the 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Refinery, the world’s largest single-train refinery, is set for inauguration on May 22nd, 2023, by President Muhammadu Buhari,” Buhari’s media aide, Bashir Ahmad tweeted.

The refinery is situated in Dangote Industries Free Zone, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos, and is designed to process crude oil grades from Africa, Asia, and America, delivering a daily excess of about 38 million liters of petrol, diesel, kerosene, and aviation fuel to Nigeria.

The refinery, which can process 650,000 barrels of crude oil daily, converts crude oil into various petroleum products such as diesel, gasoline, jet fuel, and kerosene.

The refinery will generate gasoline and diesel of Euro-V standard, jet fuel, and polypropylene.

The company said the plant was “designed to process a wide range of crudes, including many African crudes, some Middle Eastern crudes, and US (United States) Light Tight Oil.”

Concerning the target market and petroleum sufficiency, it said that the refinery would be able to fulfill 100% of Nigeria’s demand for all liquid products, including gasoline (petrol), diesel, kerosene, and aviation jet, as well as having a surplus of each of these products for export.

“The refinery is designed to use the latest technology to comply with stringent guidelines and regulations to protect the local environment, and at the same time produce the latest environmentally friendly petroleum products for worldwide markets,” the document obtained by The PUNCH from the firm stated.

Five African leaders, including President Buhari, are slated to attend the Dangote Refinery’s launching.

Togo’s President, Gnassingbé Eyadéma; Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo; Senegal’s President, Macky Sall; Niger Republic’s President, Mohamed Bazoum; and Chad’s President, Mahamat Déby are also anticipated.

However, Rwanda’s President, Paul Kagame, will send a virtual message of kindness.

The President-elect, Bola Tinubu, and other dignitaries throughout the country are also anticipated.
