Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has proclaimed Monday a work free day to let residents to participate in the ongoing continuous voter registration.
By Omotayo Olutekunbi
Mukhtar Gidado, the governor’s special assistant for media and publicity, said this in a statement.
Gidado clarified that the purpose of that day off from work was to allow state employees and public servants to travel to their various communities to register to vote and acquire their Permanent Voter Cards.
Regarding the poor voter turnout among eligible voters, Mohammed raised worry.
”By this, all Commissioners, Special Advisers, Permanent Secretaries, and other top government functionaries are directed to proceed to their respective electoral wards to mobilise eligible registrants to come out en-mass and register.
The existing continuous voter registration (CVR) initiative will be extended by 60 days by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The registration period had a June 30 deadline set by INEC.
On Monday, the Federal High Court in Abuja barred INEC from concluding the contest.
Following the hearing of a motion ex parte by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project(SERAP), Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon of Court 10 issued an order of temporary injunction.
