The lecturers have chosen to protest the payment of half of their October salaries.

The Federal Government’s intention to enact a “no-work, no-pay” policy for academics across the nation has prompted the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to announce preparations for a one-day countrywide protest.
The Punch reports that the demonstration would be organized at various union branches on public university campuses across the country and that all lecturers who are members will be excused from class on that day.
On Sunday, November 13, 2022, a union member who is a member of the National Executive Council of the union revealed this to the newspaper.
The source said: “We are protesting. Branches will choose their own dates, the government needs to understand that we are not casual workers.”
Dele Ashir, the head of ASUU’s University of Lagos branch, confirmed the situation in a letter by announcing that the chapter will demonstrate on Tuesday, November 15, 2022.
The special congress/protest demonstration against the casualization of intellectualism in Nigeria would take place on “Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at Julius Berger Auditorium,” according to the letter that was sent to “all stakeholders.”
As of the time, this article was filed, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, the national president of ASUU, could not be immediately reached for comment.
This follows the Federal Government’s decision to pay ASUU members pro rata for the number of days they worked in October, starting on the day that their industrial action was suspended.
Remember that on February 14, 2022, ASUU began an eight-month strike that ended on October 14, 2022.
