Abba Kyari, the suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, has pleaded not guilty to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s eight counts (NDLEA).

Kyari will be arraigned on Monday, March 7, 2022, according to the anti-drug agency.

The NDLEA charged Kyari and six other defendants with conspiracy, obstruction, and selling in cocaine worth 17.55 kilos in a complaint filed by Joseph Sunday, its director of prosecution and legal services.

Four of the accused are police officers from the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT). Sunday Ubia, Bawa James, Simon Agirigba, and John Nuhu are the members.

Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus Ezenwanne were also detained at Enugu’s Akanu Ibiam International Airport.

During their hearing on Monday, Kyari and four other defendants pled not guilty to the charges brought against them, while the sixth and seventh defendants pleaded guilty and asked the court for compassion.
