This was said by the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Corps Commander Steve Dawulung, during an interview with NAN on Friday in Lokoja.

According to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN), eight women were murdered in a road accident in Logo, Kogi, on Thursday evening.

“Seven of the victims died on the spot, but the eighth person died at the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, where our (FRSC) rescue team took them for medical attention.

“At the moment, five of the injured are responding to treatment, while the corpses have been deposited at the Centre’s mortuary,” he said.

A truck was involved in the collision, according to Dawulung, which happened on the Lokoja – Ajaokuta Road.

According to the sector commander, the accident happened when the stone-transporting vehicle and the ladies collided.

The women were seated on top of the stones, according to Dawulung, who added that when the vehicle crashed, the stones fell on the victims.

“FRSC gathered that the truck lost control and crashed into a ditch that caused the stones and the women to tumble, hence the high casualty recorded.

“Probably the truck driver was on a high speed on that road which is not well-surfaced,” he said.

To avert senseless tragedy on the nation’s roadways, the official urged people to drive carefully, avoid speeding, and overburden their vehicles.
