Asake’s third album, ‘Lungu Boy’, was released on August 9, 2024, and features Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar Wizkid, British rappers Central Cee and Stormzy, American superstar Travis Scott, and Brazilian singer Ludmila.
Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ has established a new record for the biggest opening week on Spotify Nigeria, with 15.47 plays in its first five days. The album breaks Davido’s previous record of 14.4 million streams, which he set with ‘Timeless’.
‘Lungu Boy’ also broke the record for the most opening day global streams for a Nigerian album on Spotify, with 9.2 million.
The second track on the album, ‘MMS’, received 870,577 streams on its first day of release on Spotify Nigeria, breaking the previous record of 626,000 streams established by Wizkid’s ‘IDK’ feat. Zlatan.
Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ has achieved international success, equalling the record for the highest-charting Nigerian album on Apple Music US, which was previously held by Wizkid’s ‘S2’ EP, Burna Boy’s ‘I Told Them’, and Davido’s ‘Timeless’.
‘Lungu Boy’ also peaked at number one on the Apple Music UK chart, becoming his third album to do so after his first album ‘Mr. Money With The Vibe’ and his sophomore album ‘Work of Art’.
Asake’s ‘Lungu Boy’ is his third single in three years, part of a string of hits that have pushed him to the heights of success.
