Kenya Has Offered a Bid to Host Grammy Awards

According to Kenya’s president, William Ruto, the country has announced plans to host the Grammys for a sum of Ksh 500 million ($3.9 million).

The president made the announcement during a town hall meeting at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre to commemorate the Hustler Fund’s second anniversary.

He stated that this action is part of his administration’s strategy to grow the country’s creative industry and promote Kenya as a global entertainment hub.

“Our plan identifies the creative economy as well as culture and heritage to be highly promising drivers of transformation and employment creation,” he stated.

President Ruto also stated that the Grammys had been paid for when Dennis Itumbi, the head of Presidential Special Projects and Creative Economy, revealed that he had accepted their hosting request.

“And we have actually instructed the state department to pay so that the Grammy awards will be hosted in Kenya,” he said.

“Finally, the president has already given instructions for us to begin bidding for the World Creative Economy Conference in 2027, to become the first African country to bring the world sector here because that would unlock the entire creative economy,” he mentioned.

The president clarified on stage that the money for the Grammys had already been paid. “We already paid 500 million Shillings towards that, and I’m sure the gentleman from the Grammy can confirm that that is the direction we are going.”

Ruto said in December of last year that the Grammy Awards would begin filming multiple films in Kenya in January of this year, according to Kenyans.co.

Earlier this year, the president visited Hollywood and was hosted in Tyler Perry’s studio, among other meetings with key figures in the American film industry.
