SATANIC TEMPLE SUES NETFLIX FOR A STATUE FEATURED IN 'THE CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA'
By Chioma Okwu

In news that you definitely didn't expect to read today, The Satanic Temple is suing a TV series over the use of a statue.

If you've been watching The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina on Netflix you may have noticed that it is a lot different to charming 1990s incarnation of Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

There are no comedy talking cats and things are a lot more entrenched in the occult side of witchcraft. This also includes Satanism and imagery of the satanic goat deity Baphomet.

In the series, a replication of the Baphomet statue can be seen in four different episodes.

A $50 million lawsuit filed on Thursday in New York by the temple claims that Netflix and Warner Bros are using the statue to promote 'Satanic panic' as it belongs to the Witches Academy, the antagonists of the show.

According to Variety, the temple states that they created their statue between 2013 and 2014, costing them $100,000, and based it on imagery which dated back to the 19 century.

The suit claims that there are elements within the statue which make it an original artistic expression and is therefore subject to copyright.

A tweet shared by the temple's co-founder Lucien Greaves shows a comparison between the two statues, which bare a striking resemblance to each other.

This has prompted a lot of discussion on social media, with people debating whether the temple are in the right to sue the makers of the show.
