Apple Music is coming to Amazon’s Alexa-powered speakers, in a rare move by the iPhone maker to broaden its service offerings to users of rival devices. Apple users are quite happy that this development came early before the holiday.
Amazon confirmed on Friday that Apple Music would be made available from the 17th of December on Echo speakers. This has been noted to be the latest sign of a truce between the two technology behemoths.
There are plenty of wireless speakers out there, but if you want to use a voice command to play Apple Music, there’s just one option open to you at present: HomePod. That’s about to change, with the ability to play Apple Music on Echo speakers … How cool is that!
Amazon has shared the news on its blog.
Music has always been one of Alexa’s most popular features and today we’re excited to announce that Apple Music will be available on Echo devices beginning the week of December 17.
Customers will be able to ask Alexa to play their favorite songs, artists, and albums—or any of the playlists made by Apple Music’s editors from around the world, covering many activities and moods. Customers will also be able to ask Alexa to stream expert-made radio stations centered on popular genres like Hip-Hop, decades like the 80s, and even music from around the world, like K-Pop. Just ask Alexa to play Beats 1 to hear Apple Music’s global live-stream including in-depth artist interviews— all completely ad-free.
The move will help Apple, which has some 50 million paying music subscribers, ramp up its competition against market leader Spotify.
Importantly, it will bring a key Apple service to consumers who do not have an iPhone or other Apple device, helping the California giant’s efforts to diversify its revenue base and reduce dependence on smartphone sales.
Apple currently allows consumers to listen to its music service, which carries a $10 monthly fee, on its smartphones and tablets as well as its HomePod which has only a small segment of the market for connected speakers led by Amazon and Google.
President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja on Saturday for Katowice, Poland, to attend the 24th session of the Climate Change Conference known as the Parties (COP24).
Mr. Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President (Media & Publicity), said in a statement on Friday that COP24, under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), would hold from December 2-4, 2018.
The COP24 Summit, taking place at the International Conference Centre (MCK) and the adjacent Spodek Arena in Katowice, is being convened under the Presidency of Poland.
According to the organisers, the conference is expected to finalize the rules for implementation of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change under the Paris Agreement Work Programme (PAWP) – the rule book for implementation.
During the Leaders’ Summit at COP24, President Buhari will deliver a national statement highlighting Nigeria’s commitment to addressing climate change by implementing the goals set out in its National Determined Contributions, Adesina said.
The president would also use the occasion to accentuate Nigeria’s willingness to work with international partners to reverse the negative effects of climate change in Africa and the world over.
He said President Buhari would be expecting that developed nations scale up their emission reduction activities in order to limit the increase in average global temperatures to well below 2 degrees centigrade between now and 2020.
The Leaders’ Summit is expected to adopt a ‘‘Declaration on Solidarity and Just Transition Silesia,’’ – named after the region of Poland where this year’s climate conference is taking place, he said.
As a member of the Committee of the African Heads of State on Climate Change – a group of 10 African countries that meets and takes positions concerning issues of climate change on behalf of the continent – Nigeria has been at the forefront of advancing policies and initiatives.
It is aimed at addressing significant challenges occasioned by climate change such as reviving the Lake Chad, halting and reversing desertification, flooding, ocean surge and oil spillage.
President Buhari will continue to champion these pressing issues at COP24 in Katowice, among others, as well as reiterate Nigeria’s position on the need for African countries to access financial resources, especially the Green Climate Fund to draw up climate change adaptation policies and actions for implementation.
The Nigerian delegation will also showcase the policy measures and actions of the Federal Government at ensuring environmental sustainability and effectively combating climate change through several side events within the Nigerian pavilion.
While in Poland, President Buhari will hold an interactive session with the Nigerian community in that country.
The Nigerian leader is also scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with the President of Poland Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
The President will be accompanied by Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Yahaya Bello and Abubakar Sani Bello of Enugu, Kogi and Niger States, respectively.
Others on his entourage include the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, the Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, and the Minister of State for Environment, Ibrahim Jibrin.

“The incident has thrown the entire Amuri community into mourning today,’’ he said.
Amaraizu stated that the suspect had been nabbed by the police and was already helping the command in investigation of the matter.
He said that the body of the deceased had been deposited in a hospital mortuary in the community for autopsy.
Flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Atiku Abubakar, is filled with high spirit as he is convinced that PDP will emerge victorious in the upcoming 2019 presidential elections.
Atiku Abubakar made this bold talk during the party’s National Executive Committee meeting on Thursday in Abuja.
The confident flag-bearer said he was surprised when the party leadership invited him and informed him of the details of the money realized from the primaries, saying that had never happened before and had posed a very big challenge to him.
“I said that should we win and we must win the Presidential election, we will have to enthrone the best fiscal responsibility this country has ever known or ever seen.
“This is simply because our party has given us that leadership, chairman I commend you.
“I believe with the genuine support of all of you, particularly of governors and members of the National Assembly, of party leaders, of local levels, and of course, party supporters, if we work together, I am convinced without any doubts that this election is for us to win.
“We have built up so much momentum after the Port Harcourt convention, it is now time for us to pick up the momentum again until we land in Aso Villa.”
Abubakar also said that he was ready to face Muhammadu Bubari, the incumbent president and Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress in an election debate.
The President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, said that through the party’s National Convention in Port Harcourt, it had demonstrated to the world that it was ready to regain power and it was time to work together to achieve that.
“We must stay strong. It is not easy in a third world country to defeat an incumbent government, but it has been done before by everybody and we will do it again.
“I say so because the people are with us, and when the people are with you, God is with you, PDP by God’s grace will succeed.’’
Saraki stressed the need to make 2019 General elections credible, saying if elections were not free and credible, the country would be a fertile ground for crisis.
“There will be Nigeria after elections and we must fight for credible elections.”

AFP- Paris Saint-Germain had been waiting for such a performance from Neymar and the Brazilian more than delivered on Wednesday’s Champions League victory over Liverpool.
The world’s most expensive player scored what proved to be the winning goal as PSG beat last season’s runners-up 2-1 to step back from the brink of an unthinkable group-stage exit.
His 14th goal of the season came at the end of a move he had initiated with his blinding pace. Neymar celebrated by performing a dance by the corner flag with Kylian Mbappe and posing for the cameras.
But Neymar’s evening was about so much more than that.
Shortly after Juan Bernat’s opening goal, Neymar rushed across to the touchline in front of the dugout to make a challenge and then waved his arms in a frenzy to whip up the crowd.
He spent much of the second half running his socks off to help PSG defend their lead, and he also upset Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for being supposedly “clever” in winning fouls and buying time.
“For us, it was all or nothing. We suffered quite a bit but we are relieved that we won, played well and showed the strength of our squad,” Neymar said.
“We need to celebrate that. After the game we were shouting, jumping around, dancing, so we are happy.”
PSG could have been eliminated with a defeat, but are now above Liverpool in Group C and head to Red Star Belgrade in their final game in a fortnight with qualification for the last 16 in their hands.
It was a big night personally for Neymar, in PSG’s most important Champions League game since the last 16, second leg against Real Madrid last season, which the Brazilian missed due to injury.
This was probably the French club’s most significant result in the competition since they beat Barcelona 4-0 in the last 16 two seasons ago. Neymar was far from the only man responsible.
There were big performances throughout, with Marco Verratti impressive in midfield, even if he was lucky not to be sent off for a dangerous tackle on Joe Gomez in the first half.
Thiago Silva towered over everyone in central defense, the 34-year-old Brazilian living up to his nickname of “The Monster” by helping shut out Liverpool’s front three of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.
Yet it was telling that Silva was so keen to praise his coach at the end of the game, as he described Thomas Tuchel as “fantastic”.
Tuchel gets better of Klopp
The German has won all 14 games in Ligue 1 this season since being appointed, but he desperately needed a signature European performance.
Tuchel made some big decisions, none more so than selecting defender Marquinhos in midfield rather than Adrien Rabiot.
Marquinhos was particularly impressive, playing in a holding midfield role without the ball and dropping into a three-man defense in possession.
Tuchel, therefore, won the tactical battle against his compatriot Klopp and crucially seems to have won over his players.
“The attitude was extraordinary. I am very proud that all the supporters in the ground saw the efforts of a team,” said Tuchel.
The question now is whether this result can act as a trigger for PSG to go on to the latter stages of the competition.
“I hope so. It is very important to go through this experience together to create a special atmosphere for the weeks ahead,” Tuchel added.
Is this a political attempt to ban drones in the country against the 2019 presidential elections?
Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, says Boko Haram terrorists have deployed the technology of flying drones and adopting foreign fighters in attacking Nigerian soldiers.
He added that these renewed attacks by the terrorists over the last three months have forced the Nigerian military to review its counter-insurgency operations in the North-east.
“Since 2015, the Nigerian Army in conjunction with sister services and other security agencies have systematically degraded the capabilities and capacity of Boko Haram terrorists and many successes were achieved.
“However, in the last 2 – 3 months, we have noticed daring moves by the terrorists, increased use of drones against our defensive positions and infusion of foreign fighters in their ranks. These potent threats require us to continually review our operations,” he said.
In the statement signed on behalf of Buratai by Brigadier General for Chief of Army Staff, Sani Kukasheka Usman states that on account of the incidents, the Conference had to be moved from Benin City to Maiduguri.
He explained; "this is to enable the Nigerian Army leadership to get closer to the troops on the ground and to better appraise our activities, assess our performance and identify our shortcomings as an Army".
“We are also sensitive to the fact that the nation is approaching an election year and thus we must be prepared to assist in providing security for the peaceful conduct of elections.
“Accordingly, the theme for this year’s annual conference is aptly titled, “Optimizing the Operational Efficiency of the Nigerian Army Towards Safeguarding Democracy and National Security in Nigeria,” he added.
He also assured that the Nigerian Army will work in conjunction with other security agencies to provide a secure environment for peace and unity in Nigeria.
The Governor of Imo state Gov. Rochas Okorocha, has revealed that there antagonists standing against Igbo presidency in 2023.
The APC oracle hinted that the present battle he is undergoing with the likes of Senator Hope Uzodinma, Ifeanyi Araraume and his deputy, Eze Madumere, is as a result of some selfish politicians building up their political career for 2023 election.
“What is happening in Igboland today cannot happen in any other place in Nigeria, because Igbo have made themselves shopping centers, where people can come, shop and buy people to destroy their own. It is not a good omen.
“I want to announce that I’m still running for the Senate for Orlu zone and my party is All Progressives Congress (APC). I’m going to make the difference. We are also supporting President Muhammadu Buhari for second term because he has done well to deserve that. I’m supporting Uche Nwosu, too, because he believes in the state and won’t be going anywhere. Imo needs someone with vision and passion to carry on with the development plans of the state.
“The people of the state joined the APC, in 2015, in spite of the blackmail that trailed the party in this part of the country, because of the confidence they have in me, not only as their governor, but, as their son. Imo people never joined APC because of any other person in Nigeria, they joined the party because of me and nothing has changed in the relationship because they are still with me.”Read More
