In recent times, music enthusiasts have opted for streaming as the best choice for listening, buying, and indeed selling music ever since the advent of big platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, Tidal and MTN Music +.
Now, most people are of the opinion that Apple Music is the most used platform worldwide but new figures from Spotify suggests otherwise. In a report published by Spotify, the streaming platform hit 70 million active subscribers – a figure which seriously makes those of Apple Music (30 million subscribers), Tidal (3 million subscribers), and MTN Music + (3.5 million subscribers) look pale by comparison.
The reports also suggest that Spotify gets at least 10 million new subscribers every six months.
This news also comes as a plus for Spotify because if the unconfirmed news of the streaming giant filing documents for an eventual IPO, which would put the company on stock exchange listings before the first half of 2018 ends holds true, then it’s sure to make investors dig deep into their pockets and splurge the cash to buy shares in the most-used streaming platform on the planet.
The only question to ask is, why hasn’t Spotify come to a fast-growing market like Nigeria yet?
