Barely 10months since its inception, Quest FM/TV in Ogor near Ughelli, Delta State, has witnessed a series of controversies that is threatening to shut down the media house.
The crisis has deepened with mass sacking of staff of the station particularly On Air Personalities (OAPs) amid speculation of sexual harassment by the station’s media consultant, Sammy Odinhiri, against female staff of the media outfit.
According The newsstand , the station is allegedly facing financial troubles as the station can barely pay workers salaries and maintain its daily operation since the owner vowed not to continue to doll out money for its running.
Investigation has revealed that Mr. Odinhiri, popularly called Sammie despite his marital commitment in Lagos, has a penchant for office romance hence his sexual exploit of female staff of Quest FM who are single, failure of which he wields the big stick on them for a sack.
After his sexual exploit with a female staff of the station who was sacked in December following a clash with the said staff and another of his girlfriend who he claimed to be his wife, a source at the station disclosed that he pitched his love advances to a new female staff of the establishment whom he had since promoted to a top editorial staff of the station.
However, the controversy rocking the station climaxed yesterday with the sack of all the OAPs and Disk Jockeys (DJ) in the station.
According to the letter of termination signed by Mr. Greg Edor on behalf of Honey Waves Communication Investment Ltd, owners of Quest FM/TV, the company accused the staff of sabotage and removing a dongle from the live studio system, an allegation the sacked staff referred to as “giving a dog a bad name just to hang it.”
The letter read, “In view of the unsatisfactory outcome of several interrogative chat sessions management held with you, bothering on the removal of the dongle from the live studio system, which is an established case of sabotage in your unit, we regret to inform you that your appointment is hereby terminated with immediate effect.”
Those fired include; Itohan Ekpemiata aka Baroness, Goodlife Atevure aka Goodlife the Spectacular and Ajiri Akuvie aka AJ.
The station also wielded the big stick on both DJ’s in the station, DJ Pato E. and DJ Barrock.
Meanwhile, other OAPs like Omatesye Atsenuwa, Ben Lawson, Mudiaga Asagba and a host of others, had since resigned their appointment with the company over what they regarded as the unprofessional conduct being orchestrated by the management of the company.
However, accusing Sammie as being the brain being her unceremoniously sack, Baroness said, “Sammie has always been harassing me sexually and my problem in the station started when I turned him down despite the fact that I reported him to the CEO of the company.
“This is pure injustice as he had tried to have his way with me severally and threatened that if he doesn’t have me, it’s either he leaves the company or I leave and he has successfully done that.”
With the wave of sack amidst sexual harassment of female staff of the company, the company which is devoid of programmes anchored by the sacked OAPs has been streaming just musicals to fill the void while the news editor, Ruth Alabor who has also being in the center of the storm, is now the voice behind the news both on radio and television.
Efforts to speak with Mr. Sammie on the allegation proved abortive. A text message later sent to this medium indicates that he was in a meeting and can’t talk at the moment.
Several hours later, he is yet to call back nor responded to a text message sent to him on the happenings at the station.
